Why?

Much of our artwork hangs on our walls and the walls of a few close friends. We thought that keeping it somewhere more public might be a good idea. So here is that more public place....

I liked the design of this card. It was fun to take a scene that I see every day and alter it to what I wanted to see. I like the ease of pastel, but I can never quite figure out how to get the brilliant colors. I enjoy the roughness of pastels as opposed to the smoothly mixed colors so the grainy texture is intentional. But I feel that the colors are very soft. One thing I enjoy about working with pastel is the ease of transferring it to electronic media. I am proud that the original of this hangs in Andi's parent's house.

This year’s card is a departure from the previous years in that it lacks the natural world as a central theme. Instead of my familiar western landscapes, I chose to celebrate 1) the small under-appreciated city scenes from our new East Coast urban environs, and 2) the idea of physical separation while still maintaining connections. These series of rowhouses are outside my Baltimore window and in reality are unbroken, not snow covered, and not decorated.
