Why?

Much of our artwork hangs on our walls and the walls of a few close friends. We thought that keeping it somewhere more public might be a good idea. So here is that more public place....

I made this card after three years in Japan and one year in Korea. That time in Asia made me come to appreciate watching the seasons change in the rice paddies.
During the spring the paddies are these smooth surfaces pools of water, just barely punctuated by small sprouts of the rice plants.
By the summer, there are tall rows of bright green plants.
In the fall the farmers cut the stalks and all have their unique way of drying the plants. Some that I most enjoyed were the farmers who stacked them so they looked like caped monsters walking through empty fields.

I wanted to show the same field through the seasons, but tried to make a scene where the two sides of the card were also tied together. If you look the left side of the scene joins seamlessly with the right side of the exact same scene in a difference season.
The color of the colored pencil faded somewhat in the reproduction process. I'd love to do this again someday in a stronger medium.
